OBJECTIVES OF MODIPAV
The "Quality Assurance Unit of Academic Libraries" (QAUAL) is the evolution of "Total Quality Management Unit of Greek Academic Libraries" (TQMU) and has been working since 20 January 1999 and is housed in the Library and Information Centre of the University of Ioannina (LIC-UI).
The establishment of TQMU was funded by the "Operational Programme for Education and Initial Vocational Training" (EPEAEK). The TQMU’s coordinator was the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) (http://www.ntua.gr) and the members of the Observation Committee were Dr Vassilios Papazoglou, Professor of NTUA and Dr George Zachos, Director of the LIC-UI.
The agency was upgraded with the funding of the Hellenic Academic Libraries Link (Heallink) under the Operational Programme "Digital Convergence". Professor Nikolaos Mitrou is the Professor responsible for the project and Dr. George Zachos the local responsible
The mission of QAUAL includes:
The electronic collection, processing, analysis and presentation of data concerning the Greek Academic Libraries, through the Internet, with the help of electronic questionnaires and the development and use of Business Intelligence Applications
The support of Greek Academic Libraries to adopt evaluation procedures of their operation and to implement rules and techniques for quality assurance using on-line e-services and applications developed within the project.
The establishment and application of evaluation indicators of the functioning and assessment by users of Greek Academic Libraries, in accordance with international practices and the use of related on-line applications.
The development and enrichment of the agency’s electronic thematic portal with education and information material concerning methodologies for the evaluation of libraries, operating standards, data collection and analysis methodologies etc.
The QAUAL has already established itself as a collective achievement and a useful tool of Greek Academic Libraries that highlights their importance and upgraded operation supporting Education and Research in Higher Education Institutions in Greece.
QAUAL, with its innovative services, develops partnerships and exchanges information and know-how with similar foreign units. Moreover, it contributes to the development of national and international information sources related to the Greek Academic Libraries, useful in other services and organizations such as the Hellenic Statistical Authority, UNESCO, etc.
